Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is the recognition given for the knowledge and skills you have acquired through work, education, training and life experience.
The RPL process involves matching your knowledge and skills to the learning outcomes of nationally recognised courses to determine whether you can be given credit for specific units of competency or modules.
If you wish to apply for RPL, please let us know when you contact our office.
RPL is a formal assessment process that seeks to recognise skills and knowledge already held by the applicant. This requires the presentation of evidence to support that claim for recognition.
Applicants should understand the process fully, and in consultation with a BPG consultant, compile the required information to demonstrate competence according to the criteria set out for the various modules in the particular training program.
RPL is intended to allow learners to focus on developing new skills and knowledge, rather than re-learning or re-doing what they already know, have already done, and can do.
RPL/RCC assessment is carried out in a manner that is consistent with the competency based principles of Validity, Reliability, Flexibility and Fairness.
Different forms of evidence can be involved, but the process, result and the assessment principles remain the same as any other assessment activity. BPG consultants will assist in advising the types of material that can be used to meet the criteria.
Recognition is granted as a result of identifying and assessing previous learning, and current skills and knowledge, against pre-determined performance standards from a learning module, unit or element of competency listed in an accredited training package or course.
It is the responsibility of the applicant for RPL to demonstrate their capacity to meet the criteria listed for EACH module.
